removing baffles
 

Trying to remove the baffles from my K5.

Lad I bought the bike off said it’s a Scorpion exhaust but isn’t labelled as it was a ‘second’ (it’s got a few dents in it). Not sure though. I've searched but can find anything that represents this.

It had a blob of weld on the bottom (arrowed). I’ve borrowed a dremel and started on it that but it’s not man enough for the job. I’ve only used abrasive pads and not a blade or cutting disk- but I don’t think I’d be able to get between the baffle and the outer metal insert. Also tried a junior hacksaw blade but blunts after a few saws. maybe need some blades suitable for stainless steel?!

So some advice please.

If I get through the top and bottom welds (arrowed) should it just pull out?
What’s the best way to cut through / separate the baffles from the main exhaust?

Any help / experience much appreciated!!

Not usually welded AND held in with a screw, 1 or the other normally - have you tried smacking the top weld with a hammer/chisel - usually just a couple of spot welds holding the baffle in that break fairly easily or try wiggling with pliers?

Is the hole for the bolt visible from inside the exhaust?

its not welded its silicone sealant. take a sharp thin knife or a junior hacksaw blade and try to cut it out.

Hi Markos, I've tried getting the pliers on it and ended up dragging the bike and its stand across the garage. the bottom weld is adamant its still attached.

I've tried a junior hacksaw blade on it but its such a small clearance that it ends up breaking the blade, or if not blunting very quickly. It's almost certainly a weld or metallic in nature i'm afraid Bibio

looks like someone might have used jb weld on it then, if it was a weld it would look a lot worse and if it is a weld then they are good at tig welding. might even be solder. try taking a blowtorch to it. if its jb weld then a good few whacks with a chisel should see it loose.

just had another close look and yes its a weld. if you really want it out then the only way you are going to get it out is a cold steel chisel. personally i would leave it in.

Shame as I think it would've have freed it up a bit - both noise and response.

Sounds like a lot of agro tho...
