That is the question. Been thinking of getting a scottoiler for a while but is it worth it on a bike that I use for dry weather non commuting only? I've been using some horribly sticky stuff in a black spray can made by Motul I think but it gets everywhere and is really hard to get the overspray off.

yes.

you will hear all the horror stories of people who dont like scottoilers and advise you not to get one. well its usually down to the fitting of it that causes problems or people not understanding what a scottoiler actually does or how it works.

as long as the scottoiler is fitted properly, the rez is kept topped up and the flow rate is correct then they are superb. i like them due to not having to pizz around with putting the bike on a paddock stand and spraying gloop every 200-300 miles. i just want to ride my bike not have to think about oiling the chain every time i want to go out.

ooohhh and it makes your chain and sprockets last 2-3 times longer so pays for itself.

can you tell i like scottoilers :-)

Just get the vSystem and dont bother with the twin orifice injector - the oil will travel without its help

I'm going to be contrary and say if the bike's for fair weather / pleasure riding only (which is all I use mine for, I'm not being sarky ;)), I'd personally save my money**.

Chain lube is much less messy if you spray into the lid of the can, and paint it onto the inside of the chain run with an old 1-inch brush (bike on a paddock stand). The brush works it into where it needs to be and you get almost zero fling-off.

** I'm a Yorkshireman, so saving money is a primary motivation for most things :D

Anyone remember Linklife,the stuff you melted?,then we used chain saw grease on the chain as it was NON FLING???,dirty days!!!

Only had the SV for 10 months, but I never needed to change the chain / sprockets on my old Suzi GT triple in 25,000+ miles. The sprockets still had some teeth left when I sold it, too :D

My bro-in-law uses his V-Strom 1000 for his 70-mile round trip commute in all weathers and has a Scottoiler, and I'd definitely fit one if I used the bike like that. But for my riding patterns, 5 minutes to lube the chain every couple of weeks isn't a hassle.

Back in the 80s I used to use Linklyfe to boil and soak the chain, it WAS filthy but the stuff never seemed to come out of the chain, no matter how crap the conditions you rode through. Used to make the kitchen smell lovely, too :smt042
