Watership Down

What are your thoughts on this film. It was shown on Easter Sunday and people are complaining that it has traumatised their children. TBH I saw it when I was young and have only watched it a couple of times and not really liked it.

An animation with rabbits does not make it a children's story, just like South Park is most definitely not for kids. It's an adventure story but with rabbits instead of people, complete with a made-up language and folklore. It's not exactly a Booker prize winner but you have to give Adams credit for what he pulled off. The film is admittedly rated U but I read just now that the BBFC think they made a mistake and 12A would be more appropriate.

This comes up every time that film is shown. Just because it has a U rating doesn't mean that it is suitable for all. Even some adults get offended at the simplest things. If its a "please won't someone think of the children!", I would respectfully suggest that parents refrain from abdicating their responsibility to a television.

I saw this at the cinema when I was 10. Some parts are sad but I don't remember being traumatised by it. There were plenty of 1970's sitcoms that were disturbing at the time though.

Can only be the soft yoghurt knitter types that are traumatised by their fabulous spoon fed, bubble wrapped children, having watched the film.

Get a grip, namby pamby idiots. Everyone knows Watership Down isn't really a kids Disney coated cartoon. Unless of course you were born in a cabbage patch and live a very sheltered and modern parenting type of life.

Bet they don't batter an eyelid at them watching Zombie murderers from Mars!

I remember watching this when I was about 7. I wish I hadn't watched it when I was 7. I was pretty upset by the beginning bit, and don't remember much else about the film.

when my kids were at primary school, the final year always had a trip to Watership Down and to meet Richard Adams. They certainly were not traumatised. But being school, they studied the book. Not watched a film.
