OMO: garage flooring
 

So I recently acquired a garage, and the floor is currently very rough concrete with an assorted layer of rugs and car mats. I want to put some knd of flooring on top, but not really sure what, or even what all the options are. Pretty much just want something reasonably smooth that can be swept out, and fluids can be wiped up easily, and if I kneel down, I'm not going to be immobilised but a lump of concrete to the knee.

Any thoughts?

Details of what I used is here.

Its been nearly 5 years so should really update that thread... But the basics are: Leave it as long as you can to dry before using it, a couple of weeks will be best. A top coat of sand mix will help in the wet. It copes with anything fluid dropped on it, oil, brake fluid, petrol, and various other chemicals. It has lost a little bit of the top layer in a couple of places but is not through to the concrete floor, I think this is due to hot tyres sticking to it, but nothing I'm worried about.

Hmm, not sure I can leave it weeks. Days even would be a problem, as I have to store 2 bikes in there, including a ducati, which I really don't want to leave out to the elements.

Is it your garage so worth investing in, or rented/borrowed where you might want something a bit cheaper or removable?

It is part of the house we bought. Doesn't need to be really long term at this point. But something to last a few years would be good.

I did think about putting in those rubber mats, but I also want to put in some storage and a small bench.

Not ideal for spills and drips but a carpet fitter may well let you have something room sized for free that they've ripped out before laying new stuff. Warm and easy to kneel on, vacuum or brush clean, soft to stand on. You can put a thin rubber mat down under drips and if it gets knackered you can bin it and replace with very little effort/cost. My garage has my old sitting room carpet in it - cut roughly to size with a Stanley knife.

exactly what has been done in my garage too trev, and makes it really not too bad to lie on to do work on the bike during the winter.....
