Restrictor kits advice needed......PLEASE!!!!
Hi lads just wondering if anyone can help me because I can't seem to find a pretty clear cut answer.....but I apologise if this had already been covered somewhere
Has anyone restricted an sv650s curvy 2000 plate to be A2 legal so 35kw/47bhp?? If so my questions are What kits have you all used?? And What is the bikes performance like afterwards?? Such as top speed acceleration and torque?? I need to do mine but I've heard that I need to stay away from the inlet washers and go for the throttle stop restriction but just wanted advice of the pros [emoji4] cheers in advance lads Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Restrictor kits advice needed......PLEASE!!!!
Get the inlet washers in, takes 5 mins to fit, you can buy them off "Kickstart Engineering" on Ebay for around 50 quid.
Thats what I did, acceleration is fine up till about 90mph, it wont go past 100mph. Whatever you do, dont ride it till its restricted otherwise you will miss the power. I have got a throttle stop on my new bike and I preferred the washers tbh. |
Re: Restrictor kits advice needed......PLEASE!!!!
Thanks for the info mate [emoji4] I've already made the mistake of riding it without but I've honestly tried my best to not ride it to its full power so hopefully shouldn't miss the power that much, see with the washers does it mess up with the carbs or anything??

Re: Restrictor kits advice needed......PLEASE!!!!
Shouldnt do no, you are just making the diameter of the inlets smaller. It doesnt mess with fuelling etc.
Think of it as decreasing power by a percentage. |

Ahh spot on thank you for the help and advice mate, hugely appreciated I've been hovering the mouse over 2 kits on eBay 1 being a throttle stop and the other the one you mentioned from kickstart and like I say I've never new which one because my last bike was a gs500 and it didn't need restricted so was totally stumped haha? Are they easy enough to fit ?? Like would I manage it myself in quiet mechanical minded, for insurance purposes what do I do for that?? Sorry for all the questions haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Restrictor kits advice needed......PLEASE!!!!
Lift tank, pull off the airbox, then the carbs, drop washers in the inlets and put back together. From memory there is 4 jubilee clips to loosen (2 on airbox, 2 on carbs)
Shouldnt take more than 15 minutes. If you are anywhere near Runcorn/Liverpool I can lend a hand. If your insurance wants a certificate, tell them to do one and go with an insurer that doesnt. |

Ahh sounds easy enough then, oh mate honestly that would be great and it's hugely appreciated but I'm in Carlisle/Cumbria so a few hours away like [emoji107].
Hahaha I like that answer I shall do that mate [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
