Pothole damage
Hi, I managed to hit a huge pothole on the way to work this morning.
It's dented the rim on one side as I was steering around a smaller one so was tipped over a bit. I have reported it to council highways division & they're sending out compensation claim paperwork. I have 2 main questions.... would the tyre be damaged & need replacing in spite of no visible impact? It is less than 500 miles old too! Secondly, has anyone got a silver front wheel for a K3 S for sale as eBay seems dry? Thanks Mark |
Re: Pothole damage
Unsure of the other bits but I will say this, if you didn't already, go get photos of the pothole with measurements and a date stamp!
Heard stories of councils sending out a bod with a spray can to paint round it to say "we highlighted it" so no need to pay out Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |
Re: Pothole damage
Got lots of piccys just after it happened but couldn't get measurements as it's a busy A-road with loads of traffic.
I know what they are like, they'll have had a crew out to fling some tarmac in it by now! |
Re: Pothole damage
Tyre may be OK but for safety's sake I wouldn't risk it. Add it to the bill for the council. Hopefully they will cover your costs. If you had the tyre inspected once off the rim you may be happy to continue using it. Maybe not. Play safe.

Re: Pothole damage
The council refused to pay out to me because the pothole wasn't visible on their last inspection of the road and no one had reported it since. So they cannot be held responsible. Hope that doesn't happen to you

If they are not aware of it, they're not liable. Most councils have an interactive map on their website to see if it has been reported. You have to submit an invoice for the damage caused. |

Re: Pothole damage
Depending on how bad the ding is there is always the possibility of having it straightened out. Contact someone like Maidstone Motoliner who are experts on such things.

Re: Pothole damage
I was recommended Motoliner by someone on an SV Facebook group.
I reported the pothole online via their website & they advised me to call them as it was deemed dangerous. It is big enough to be seen on Google maps and is visible on Street view ( images dated July 2016!) The pothole is a long stretch of broken up road in between previously patched sections so they must be aware of it. I've seen them carrying out temporary repairs in the summer. Still waiting for claim forms. |
Re: Pothole damage
Whereabouts is this hole?
