What is it
Hello mighty org. I have no idea what these two objects are.
Firstly It is hollow and as you can see different size holes ate each end. It's about 9 inches total length. Secondly what I thought was a overly elaborate bottle opener Thanks for helping out a bored and sad LOM |

Re: What is it
Wednesday the Son In Law and I bought a pillar drill at a physical auction (yes they still exist), went to get it today and it came with a car full of rubbish which we didn't know about as the wife had bid for us. Anyway amonst all of this skip bound carp was a bit of kit which is obviously a quality bit of kit. Its made by a company called Cooke Troughton & Simms of York, who back in the day made quality instruments to do with light, level dumps, microscopes, telescopes, theodolites, sextants etc. However this doesn't seem to be an instrument that uses light from what I can see. My mate Google has shown me loads of images which look nothing like what I have. When you turn on the switch the motor rotates the little table. underneath the are what appear to be drive pulleys perhaps to drive other things. BTW we have no idea if the pillar drill works as we spent the afternoon looking at this and scratching our heads.

Re: What is it
My guess is a device for shaping lenses.

Re: What is it
Your mate Google and I had a quick look about in amongst his old movies and pictures.
Looks very similar to a device for polishing lenses in this old film. Fast forward to 18m48s: https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/...45-1939-online EDIT: just had a quick thought, spot the PPE... any H&S people you're not keen on, get them to watch this film from start to end and they're pretty much guaranteed a heart attack  |
Re: What is it
