Throttle Question
 

Hard to explain…


If the throttle turns too much before engaging, that is toomuch throttle play. Not that.



But if the throttle engages when it should but the firstpart of the turn (only), a bit less than¼ turn, is a bit “sticky”/not smooth is there an adjustment for that? So youturn the throttle and then there is a slightly stiff part then the throttlerolls on normally. Same when rolling off the gas. Jumps a bit as a result.

It is not due to a bar end, and the grip is not slipping.

I'd get a new A-Pull cable.Had this happen when a cable got kinked.

I started following Tamsen's rather good video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng6rWVzNp0M for lubing the two cables. A bit more tricky on the AL7 (as all maintenance seems to be). I couldn't get the cables to pop out though. However, when I put it back together it seems to be better. I am hoping it might have been just the extra wire from my heated grips interfering with the return. If it comes back, I'll look to change the cable.

No harm in lubing cables.One of the first jobs I did when I got my Curvy :)

Had a throttle cable problem and it was the breather pipe for the fuel tank fouling it. It's busy under that tank, I'd raised it to do some work and snagged the rubber pipe on the cable. Now more careful when lowering the tank.

lined cables are designed to be run dry as the lining is also the lubrication. lubing a lined cable can make things worse as lube can act as cutting fluid against the lining.

when any lined cable starts to get sticky then its time for a new one as the lining has been cut by the inner cable, the shards of lining then get trapped and lubing it will mix the oil and shards into paste. inner linings are usually made of teflon and the cheep ones of nylon.

unlined cables (rare these days) are different as there is no lining and instead the inner and out cable mating surfaces are both metal which are fine to lube and should be regularly.
