Curvey stalls

2001 Carb Curvey Sports,
My ride for 18 years, has started to stall when stationary behind a vehicle, at traffic lights in fact generally every time i come to a stop. Starts up straight away but gets worse as the engine gets hotter, once on the throttle though she seems okay. I suspect the slow running jet issue. Any thoughts?

Have you pulled the plugs out yet?

Pilot jets would affect operation from idle to maybe 1/4 throttle. Is your idle speed set too low (1300+/- 100 rpm)? Dirty air filter, old plugs?

Sticky chokes can also result in stalls at idle. Check they are free and the cables aren't fraying etc. The usual problem area is where the cables meet the carbs, the plungers can get sticky or the cables rust there.

You can try some carb/injector cleaner (fuel additive) which can sometimes help keep the smaller passages clean. It won't unblock them but if it's just some deposits from leaving the bike un-used for a period then it can help. Note you can use stuff sold as injector cleaner, it'll still work the same in carbs.

Obviously the basic settings, idle speed, idle mixture and carb balance are fundamental.

Have you balanced the carbs?
