Gen 3 SV dash playing 'Snake'
 

My Gen 3's fuel level indicator suddenly started playing 'Snake' in the middle of a ride last week, I didn't know it had the game built in! Anyone else had this?

I've also lost the 'fuel range' display. I've checked and cleaned the connector to the pump/fuel level sensor and it's fine, I suspect the sensor itself has failed or maybe the float has popped off the arm. Irritatingly, the bike is only 6 weeks out of warranty.

Can't be @r5ed draining the tank and removing the pump to inspect the sensor, and as it's not throwing a fault code or affecting anything, I'll just leave it.

If be tempted to stick an obd reader on it to make sure it's not the cluster causing the problem (if it is it may be worth pursuing warranty, latent defect). One of those £10 eBay Bluetooth ones are good enough, connect with the torque app (free version).

You can make your own adapter leads easily. This is a guide for an MT10, but assuming the SV uses CAN bus the principles are the same.

Interesting effect - mine hasn't developed that problem yet.

I don't think the Gen3 SV uses the canbus. You need the specialised Suzuki adaptor and software package to talk to it. Codes can be read from the display same as the older models though.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong - you can buy a OBD reader for the 2018 on SV

The service manual says if you disconnect the fuel pump coupler and connect a variable resistor between the r/b and b/w pins on the harness side you can check the display with ign on.
200Ω = low fuel blinking + 1st bar blink (you've just run out of fuel!)
148.9Ω = low fuel blink
69.2Ω = mid range
14.9Ω = full
It takes 40 secs for gauge to read correctly

If you don't have a variable resistor/pot any fixed value between 15Ω and and, say, 120Ω would tell you if it's a sender or a gauge fault since you should be getting a static display.

Thanks for that - I might give that a go. Bike runs absolutely as before and no CEL / FI symbol so evidently the ECU does not factor the fuel level sensor reading into its mapping.
