If the rumours (and patent drawings) are correct the SV650 days are numbered and it will be replaced by a parallel twin. Will the forum embrace the new S650/GS650 or whatever it is to be named or should it have a new forum of its own?

I think we should embrace it but all be foul to the parreleogram newcomers. Long live the V.

Is it going to stay a 650cc? i could see them either making it sub 600, or a 700 and joining the various new models in this mid segment.

Imo... no other piston engine format can replicate that 'certain something' that only a V twin can deliver, so ... for me ... I'll be staying with my curvy S.

Ride a parallel twin with an offset firing cycle, they feel very similar to a V twin in that respect.

Might be wrong but I think Hugh's 900cc parallel engine does this - it's not the same as the rather bland engine I had in my old GS500E that's for sure.

I would not be surprised if the new engine comes in at a slightly lower CC level than 650. Honda seem to be shifting quite a few units of their CB500 variants so Suzuki may look to do the same, with a street, cafe, cruiser and soft-road versions of the new bikes. The lightweight adventure segment seems particularly popular at the moment, perhaps down to Itchy Boots and her adventures.

My point was not so much what bike would replace the SV but whether this forum would become home to the new non V twin model, assuming it's a 650 since we would not be gaining many (any) new members if it was SV only.
It may be out of our hands anyway if someone starts up a forum for the new model.

Makes sense to have less than 600cc to get lower road tax, or make it worthwhile to pay higher tax by making it 700cc +

that's what i was aiming at. You either bring it down for the pros, or go big for the pros & and give it to people as an option for a bigger bike.
A lot of bikes now sit in that 700-800cc range where people don't want/need 1000CC but still want somethings that is very capable (for any use)
