Front header replaced
 

The front header on my curvy was in a poor state. The studs and retaining collar were corroded almost beyond recognition, and the other end where it enters the collector was cracked right through. I bought a reasonable second hand header on ebay and got new studs, nuts, copper manifold gasket and the graphite sleeve for the other end.

Then, for the first time ever I took it to someone else to get it sorted. That was DC Motorcycle repairs in Newtown, and I would have to say they were brilliant. Knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. They managed to get what was left of the studs out without having to drill them, and fitted the new studs, gaskets, and header. Just in time too, as the corrosion had started eating into the head, but after a spot of careful cleaning up, and dressing the area, the whole lot went back together just fine.

What a difference to the bike as well. Now it has full back pressure from the silencer it runs smoothly and without popping and farting. It ticks over properly again too.

They even washed and polished the bike for me before I collected it! I can't recommend these folks highly enough, a great job.

I have done 3 of these now & each one has been a right pain. Nice to know that there are still good mechanics around

Amazing that they managed to get the studs out without drilling, etc. Pointies use long allen bolts which screw direct into the head, and on my old K6 one of them was completely frozen. I have some extra-long-shank allen keys and I couldn't get the bolt to move even with those, I was concerned the bolt might snap.

On my Gen 3 the bolts got liberally copper greased when I got it home.

Nice. Also saves you going all the way down to see Spannerman.

One of the reasons I had been thinking about going to see Spannerman was to get the valve clearances checked and the pilot jet adjustment screws freed off as the bike was a bit erraric at tickover. However, since the exhaust has been done, the engine is silky smooth all the way through the range from tickover.

If a header is sound but just covered in road crap etc use toilet cleaner and a wire brush on it, comes up a treat

I hadn't heard of Dc Motorcycles, good to know about them should I ever have need. It's amazing how much difference an exhaust makes to an engines performance.

They're on the Mochdre Industrial Estate John. They have DC Auto Repairs and DC Motorcycles in two separate units, but close to each other.

The chap who does the m/cycle MoTs has raced SVs in the minitwins series and also on the IoM.
