Tyre storage?
I've just won a pair of z6's in a competition. which is great, only problem is i have nearly new bridgestones on, so it will be a while before i wear down that front, i'll probably go through a couple of rears on the way, and i don't do that much milage. if i keep the z6's, how long will they last if i keep them in bin bags in the garage?

I believe the rules are cool, dry, and definitely out of the sun, and not distorted (i.e. not hanging on pegs or tied up with rope) so your plan sounds good. I think laid flat on their sides is OK providing stuff isn't piled on top.
Not sure on time period, but I use bikes with tyres over 2 years old anyway, and that's out in the wide world, so I'd have thought a couple of years carefully stored shouldn't be a big problem. I stand to be corrected by someone in the know, however! :? |
I have a technical department answer on this question!
My new job involves a lot of work for Michelin, so I asked the tech bod and the warehouse manager! Tyres are as already stated stored in a cool dry dark warehouse and are systematically destroyed after 5 years. Them Z6's were supposed to be mine as well so a good home is waiting for them. I still think that new fresh tyres are better than old unused ones though |
