Scratches on Windscreen
 

I've scratched my screen - any tips on restoring? I've seen some info on using lighter fuel, but this does very little. Is it possible to polish out deeper scratches and if so any ideas on good products?

Embarrisingly, I fell off on the gridlocked Western Ave, just by Northolt. I pulled in to let this guy passed, who gave me a cheery wave, then I shoulder checked, moved out, looked in front and the car I had pulled in behind seemed closer somehow, so I tried moving left quickly and fell sideways onto some unsuspecting guys wing / bumper - all at a launch speed of about 2MPH. As I say embarrassing to say the least - my good deed has dented my pride, but not the bike, save for a scratched screen.

If it's impossible to restore are there any colour films availible to mask the scratches?

Good excuse to buy a double bubble :thumbsup:

But then I'll want to add more extras, new can, braided brake lines, mini indicators etc. My wife will leave me and my kids will be put in a home......

Toothpaste is good for taking out fine scratches from plastic- at least, toothpaste with baking soda or similiar abrasives in. If the scratches are deeper than that, maybe you could work through grades of wet and dry and finish with a rubbing compound?

Thx all for the replies. I found an old can of t-cut in the garage and whilst not perfect, it don't look too bad. The soda toothpaste sounds worth a try and I might try some kind of tinted film on there to hide the remaining scratches. Of course Christmas is coming and a new screen would be nice..........

try getting a polling mop to use on the drill. Then with the finist compound you can get give it a good buffing over. apply light pressure and cut at 90 deg. to the scratch. Also don't linger in one place as heat will build up.

Yeah - that plastics polishing kit at £16 looks pretty good - cheers for the tip.

Check out eBay, they seem to come up all the time for about a tenner. A lot less hassle!
