Forks

Well as some of you may know my fork stantions (Spelling?) are pitted very badly... pretty awfully really

Anyway, was speaking to Rictus the other week and he said you can get replacements of just that part rather than changing the whole forks over or powder coating etc...

Anyone know anywhere that does these and what sort of price they'd be? How easy to change over? as I can't have the bike off the road.

Do you mean the stanchions (the chromed tubes) or the sliders (the ali bits that slide)?

Iansv 06-10-04 08:50 AM

The bit at the bottom..... the legs.. :?

No, don't buy stanshuns, you will be disappointed, as they are the chromed tubes.

I'd call them fork lowers or fork sliders. i got both forks for a K1 off Ebay for £40 including postage, the legs were bent but the lowers and internals were good, got them powdercoated black and put them on last weekend- nice

Thing is, you could fit new/slightly used sliders, and in a year or two they'll look the same. the finish isn't that tough. I'm hoping- expecting- my powdercoated ones to stand up better.

I'm planning on keeping the spares in case I ever return to stock to sell the bike, but they come up on Ebay from time to time. Even if a bike gets mangled, the sliders ought to survive.

would probably get them powdercoated anyway.... just looking at options really as current ones are looking awful

I'd send you my spares to use while you get the originals powdercoated, but to be honest that'd probably not save you much hassle... Let me know if you want to do this though...

FWIW, the coater I used turned them around in a single day, so you could probably strips the front, get them blasted and coated, and rebuild in a long weekend...

Will have a think, probably won't do it till the spring anyway, thanks mate
