Storing a bike
Need to know somethings if anyone has had experience of the following.
SORN and insuring a bike thats not on the road? |
I'll look after it  Fed up of walking to work :(
|
I stored the Duke off-road in my brothers garage for 2 years when working overseas. I filled in the SORN then just continued to insure it 3PFT on the minimum mileage bracket. I didn't tell the insurers it was technically 'off-road'.
It might be an expensive option, but it's good for building your no claims! |
If it's going off the road fill the sorn in & get it stamped at the post office otherwise they will fine you after a month if you don't SORN or tax the bike. You can phone your insurance & ask them I tend to leave mine running normally because it too much hassle. Also with gaps in insurance periods they want to charge extra. It seems if there is a significant gap your classed as a born again. Last year when my insurance was due the bike was off the road I contacted the insurance company & was told the renewal fee was only valid for a short period.

I couldn't find anyone that'd insure mine for the month it was off the road before my test, but Carole Nash suggested I forget about auto insurers entirely and just get it insured as a large-value possession from a regular underwriter...
