My '03 SV650S is Leaking Oil (HELP)
It leaks oil from the left side engine cover bolts. I had the clutch push rod pin replaced 2 times, because thats what the dealer said was the problem. It still leaks, has anyone heard of this as a comman problem, or can anyone help??

Need more info, where on the motor is the leak coming from?
I get that it's the left side, but is it front, back, top, bottom, or where exactly, from the cover over the generator? From behind the sprocket? |
Step one - make absolutely certain it is the bolts that are leaking. Oil has a habit of spreading round and collecting so it appears to come from one place when it really started off somewhere else.
Clean the area thoroughly with some Gunk, Jizer, or similar water soluble oil remover, wash off and dry thoroughly. If you get it really dry, a light dusting of talcum powder will show up where the oil is coming from. That's the region which will collect all the mung from the chain, which oozes when it gets hot. :? The other thing is that on the earlier models, some of the alternator cover screws have sealing washers on them. Not sure if it's the same on a K3. :? |
I had a small leak from one of those. I tightened it. It stopped. I'm an engineering genius.
But seriously, about 3 of those bolts have a wee o-ring on, if you leave it off or get it on the wrong bolt, you get a slow trickly leak. I'd hope it's not that simple if you've had a qualified mechanic look at it, but it might be. |
