Suzuki SV1000

As I'm seriously thinking of buying an SV1000 (naked) for my next bike, I was just wondering from any owners out there, does it have a steering damper on it? I know the SV1000S does as I've read it in this months Ride magazine (SV1000 v Firestorm v Ducati 1000DS v Aprilia Falco).

If it does, is this because it would otherwise be a tank-slapping monster like it's TL1000S predecessor (which I love by the way  )

Cheers all.

Rich

PS: I'm already closer to an SV than y'all think as when I had my GS, I arranged to have SV mirrors fitted to it as the GS mirrors that come as standard are those horrible little round ones that show you nothing of what's behind (I like rectangular mirrors)

I do love'em but I don't think I'm brave enough to own one yet. (or experienced)

The SV is just right though

ok fair enough but if thats the case maybe an sv1000 would also be unsuitable

Are the SV1000s a bit of a handfull / manic / too much for inexperienced, or are they mild-mannered?

I was always under the impression that they were mild-mannered and you could tootle around on one at low revs.

:(

kinda but i wouldnt sugest it as a first big bike either go with the 650 first or a 600cc sport tourer this should prepair you much more for the power of the 1000. lots of people get scared by 600cc bikes let alone 1000cc bikes

Doesn't a 500 qualify to be a first big bike anymore? ;p

yes and no, i see the thousand as something to aspire to and after 5 years i see that as a big bike and 500's as smaller bikes. i agree after a 125 it is a big first bike with loads more umph and stop. i just see it as an awfully big step to go from a 500 to a 1000. think about your going from a 125 with 10ish bhp to a 500 with 40-50 bhp to a 1000 with 100+bhp not being funny but after riding my 400 and getting my 600 i thought it was gonna pull my arms off. and then even from my 600 to the TL i thought i was gonna die. just something to think about

I completely agree with you. I started seeing 500s as smaller bikes a few months ago when I got my first 600, now on a 650 and I view the 1000 as something much more extreme. Just thought I'd poke some fun.
