paddock stand advise
Sorry, really boring question I know but what do you chaps think about these type of stands?? I assume you don't need swing arm bobbins and that this will suit my K3 as it has a straight sided swingarm? Are these stable enough?
I'm planning a major overhall on the bike this saturday and need a stand for cleaning the chain, rear shock and rear wheel. This one is only £26.99 so looks like a bargin if it fits. http://www.prfracekits.com/rear.gif Ta. |
I have one of these:
http://www.abbastands.co.uk/Images/s..._animation.gif Abba Stand Cost a bit more but is just great... but I do also have a : http://www.micron-exhaust.com/store/.../01stands2.jpg Micron stand Which is what I used before it, great stand lifted the bike just fine. But was not quite as stable and easy to use as the abba, plus ment that I couldn't remove the shock and swing arm if need. The only thing I found with the Micron stand was some times the rubber holders would get caught in the chain and made gettiing it on/off difficult. |
I have a stand just like the first one. Cheap and cheerful. So long as you're not squeamish about dropping the bike they're easy to use. I find it's perfectly stable, but then, it's not like a jump around on the bike when it's on the stand.

Thanks Dan and Carsick.
I'll go for the cheap and cheerful method then. All I'll be doing is turning the rear wheel and giving the chain a rub so sounds like it should be stable enough. I can get the bike balanced upright by holding the grab rail so shouldn't be a problem to get the stand in place. ps. can someone move this to Ancillaries please? ta. |
Got to be a bit contentious here! :( I use the Micron stand and have now found it an absolute doddle to lift the bike on and off it on my own. But yes obviously any major swingarm work cannot be done by using such a stand. 8)

I've got an NWS stand - very similar to the abba stand.
The advantage is that you can easily use it on your own - with the paddock stands you really want someone to lend a hand - it's very easy to flick the bike over if you're a bit quick with the levering |
I don't have the grab rail anymore so the micron stand got scary sometimes and my drive ain't that even. The Abba is so much easier....
|
Yeah, not having a grab rail would certainly make a normal paddock stand a scary experience. To be honest, it always worries me a little when I use it myself.

They're selling the red paddock stands (above) at the NEC for £15 :!:

I have an EazyRizer, expensive, but awesome
