Underbike heater ?
 

Visited an old boss of mine who has a fireblade. He has it under a cover or two ( specialist bike covers) . Underneath the cover he had a sort of 'light' heater under the bike , constantly keeping it nice and warm.

He's on hols now for a few weeks , and thought i'd ask if anyone has seen these or knows where to get one. Might get one to stick under the bike while its in the freezing cold garage .

Not the same thing.but in Norway with the Army many years a go, we had a plug on the side of the engine block you could attach a lead and run a heater element to stop the oil freezing.

We used to fit block heaters for cars sold in Canada. I seem to remember they had sockets next to parking places.

As for an underbike heater, I presume it's intended to minimise condensation etc. Since it's just a low wattage heater, why not use a simple inspection lamp and fit the bulb of your choice (the output all ends up as heat eventually). Available from most car accessory or tool shops, less than a tenner. It's safe and the cage should ensure the covers can't touch the bulb. You could also run it off a simple timeswitch, again only a few quid. :idea:

That's a really neat solution embee AND will act as a deterrent as my bike is under cover on my drive :wink:

Or as a beacon saying "Here I am, please steal me".

Timer switch would be a good idea though, that way you're not just leaving it on all the time.

not sure if it would do any good outside, think you might be fighting a losing battle! :?

thanks anyway guys. i'll have to have a hunt round for it. wasnt far off looking like a small flourescent tube.

How do you guys with "outside bikes" make them go? I left mine outside for one night last week and it took a huff, took ages to get it to start... It was absolutely baltic, and it didn't have a cover, but still...
