Something we've known all along!

I see more and more people performing ropey manouvres while having their one-handed conversations!

It's all very well HMG being in favour of tougher enforcement but you have to catch them at it! With fewer dedicated traffic patrols this will not happen...

Quote:

Four out of 10 drivers (37%) told the motoring organisation they were still using their phones while on the road.

Two years ago, just one in 10 (11%) of those surveyed admitted to using a hand-held mobile.........

Research carried out by the RAC in 2003 showed that nearly nine out of 10 drivers already had a mobile phone, so this increase can only have come about because drivers have decided that they are unlikely to be pulled over.

yep
speed cameras don't catch 'em, and there aren't enough traffic plods about these days, so they get away with it. I wish I could mount a video camera on my bike - I must see at least half a dozen people on phones every day on my way to work

You can get camera kits for bikes, little velcro on ones (you need to link them to an underseat DV cam, so pricey if you don't already have one).

It'd be interesting to see what the police did if you gave them a tape- they generally try to discourage vigilantisim, but don't seem terribly adverse to the public acting as "spotters";I read about members of the public in one village being given hand held speed cameras, but people caught by them were only sent warning letters, as opposed to fines, etc., by the police.

Don't know about you, but I'd rather run the risk of encountering drivers on the phone than have survailence in every vehicle...

It's a good point, old Big Brother's little brother watching over you. I'm not sure what I'd prefer, closer scrutiny/policing and a potentially safer albeit sanitised enviroment, or more freedom but with the risk of being injured?

A fine isn't enough add to the fine a few poits on the liecence then people will take notice, this will be happening soon apparently.
