Defective product or just my hard luck?
I lost an indicator on the way home tonight.
I'd received a set of flush micro indicators a little while back from Airtech in California, but only got around to fitting them just over two weeks ago when I had some time off. Got home tonight to find the left hand one had come off the bike - it looks like the sticky pad that came with it failed, and the wind speed then tore the pod from the wiring (which is now hanging out nicely from the hole). Does this sound like a case for me to ask for a replacement indicator, on the grounds that some part was defective as the thing only stayed attached to the faring for just over a fortnight, or is it a case of c'est la vie? Considering the pain in the **** it was to get shipped to the UK in the first place, I'm really ****ed off. |
Tough one, they could argue you didn;t clean the area well enough to get it glued right.. A failure would be the light not flashing, but as it doesn;t meet your expectations you may be ok. Although from the states... Did you pay by Credit cArd? that sometimes helps?

The bike was stripped and cleaned throughly, everything degreased, then allowed to dry before I started adding all the aftermarket parts... so I'd say the failing was in the sticky pad that came with the indicator. I'd also say that another failing was how easily the wires on the indicator slipped from their sockets - at the other end I only had them connected to the bike with universal connectors and duct tape... but that held.
Yes, I did pay for it by by Credit card - but I'd rather just have a replacement that I can fortify than a refund as I like them - they're quite trick. However, as Airtech don't deliver outside of the States, and it was such a pig arranging for a US contact to receive it then forward it to me in the first place, I don't hold out much hope for aftermarket service in the UK. As the things spent more time in the post than they did on my bike, you can see why I'm a little ****ed off at this turn of events. |
