Suspension Settings

I've had my naked SV1000 since mid-Sept and generally think it's great. What I don't love though is the handling. It's ok on dry, smooth roads but add in some bumps or rain (or both) and it's not so clever. I think part of it's down to me coming from sportsbikes and expecting the same front-end feel, and part is down to the crap tyres that's on it.

However, that doesn't explain why it tries to tie itself in knots when it hits a bump when cranked over even a little bit.

Does anyone have suspension settings that work for an average weight (13st is average for me !!!) rider ? It's going for it's 4000 mile service next week and I'm going to get them to drop the forks down 5mm – I read on here that that can help, but the whole thing needs tightened / stiffened up.

I'd like to avoid the expense of getting the forks re-valved and a new shock put in, so if anyone has settings that work for them I'd be very grateful ……
