Chain oilers
 

Been thinking to myself for sometime that I really should get myself one of these chain oilers because I am the world's worst for keeping my chain clean and lubed.

I know that snotoilers are probably the most popular choice, but I have also been looking at the Loobman oilers and wondering if they any good, being a fraction of the price, and with me being a bit tight like that.

It also seems to me that Scottoiler are onto a bit of a good thing cos they seem to use a relatively large amount of oil which surprise, surprise you have to buy their own brand - or am I just being cynical?

Anyway if anyone has any thoughts, especially if you have a Loobman, then I wouldn't mind hearing them.

You can use other oils in a Scottoiler, no problem... You can just use engine oil IIRC.

Is the loobman the mechanical one? Couldn't be bothered with that to be honest... Plus, Scottoiler have an excellent level of support and parts (mine was missing some bits when I got the bike- they sent me the parts free of charge, had them a day later by Special Delivery. That's better service than most companies give if you're paying. You can order any of the parts from the reservoir down to the screws to fit it seperately, although you'll have to pay for that :)

Old engine oil works fine, don't get it on your skin, nasty stuff, (we now know, oops too late).

Anyone fitted a loobman... I have one in my garage that's never been done?????

I fitted a Loobman to my DRZ400 (I have a Scotoiler on my SV).

It is OK, quite clever and well thought out.

The main problem is the amount of time it takes for the oil to actually get to the chain after you have squeezed the bottle - this can be reduced by making sure the bottle is as close to the rear sprocket as possible, it may be better to drop the oil on the front sprocket so you can get the bottle even closer.

It is also a bit fiddly to get set up properly, but not too bad.

I would never use one on my SV simply because the Scotoiler is better (it is fully automatic) and because money is not a problem, but if I was a bit short then I would be more than happy with a Loobman.

You might want to use a nice thin oil in the winter and a normal 10w40 in the summer - cheap as chips from Halfords is fine.
