GSXR 750 USD Front End >> £400 or less
I've been offers a GSXR750 front end of an L reg. This is not SRAD and the discs are not great. I'll get the entire front for £350 in good nick. Is it worth doing?
I'm pretty much going to spend £100 on a new front wheel for the SV anyway. |
The only thing I can think of to check is that it might have the useless anti-dive system... And of course, old parts are likely to be heavier and less good in general, but you know that. New discs if needed will send your price way way up,which you also knew.
Personally, I wouldn't. It's a big job to be doing half-assed... Plus you might still find you need to source different yokes for compatability. |
Yep but according to http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=15910 the forks will bolt straight on? I looked at the yokes and they are similar (by eye anyway).
A new wheel will cost be £100+ (sv). I could sell SV front end parts for probably £100 and end up with an GSXR750 front end for £250. 2nd discs at £50, gold calipers I could do myself - jobs a goodin. So it's basically finding out whether the front-end will fit without much modification, if I'll loose steering locks and so on. |
Mmm. Yeah, I saw that thread, and I've heard it elsewhere that the head bearings/stems are the same, so if that's true that bit'd be easy... Though as you know there's more to fit than just the stem/bearing- frinstance R1 yokes are too low and foul the tank.
Well, one thing is that at that price you can probably sell it on if it doesn't work and make only a minimal loss... |
Oh enthusiasm is a wonderful thing until it gets you into trouble. With bikes there is never a "straightforward" job. Some are just less straightforward than others....
Not being rude mate, but If I had made some of the mistakes you have doing pretty simple stuff, I would leave forks and brakes welllllll alone. If you buy the front end, you are bound to run into problems which you may not be able to solve sufficiently yourself unless you have the technical knowhow. Your either then left with an unsafe bike, or a bill to pay someone who does know how to sort it. Dan |
Ah hell I'm just gunna get it.
|
L reg it doesn't have anti-dive. Easy enough to fit, price isn't bad if the front wheel is included. Make sure you get the mudguard and calipers too.

I'm getting a TMax in spring, so if anyone wants it its in Crook in Durham. This is the entire front-end in very good condition (i've seen with own eyes) however discs are worn. The calipers are racing spec (very nice they are).
PM me if you want the guys details. He won't go lower than £400. |
God damn it he's phoned and will take £350!
Tmax or keep the SV... oh dear! |
Well, you could buy yourself a big jaggy armchair if you want :) IIRC you'd decided to get one before and then changed your mind?
