Can anyone tell me what this is/does?
I was washing the bike the other day and this little pipe dropped down from it's proper position.
I can't tell if it was connected to anything or if it is some sort of air line. I can't see anything obvious but i'm not that good when it comes to stuff like this! Bike seems to run OK but I only moved it from the front of the house to the back so I'm not sure if it'll run any distance! The bike's an SVSK3. Any help would be welcomed as it's bugging me! Cheers In Advance Guys http://www.geocities.com/monthly_rant/pipe.htm |
I hope you mean the little one. It's the overflow pipe, so if your bike goes rubber side up, petrol comes out of it....
If its the big one...thats the coolent i think? connected to the radiator? Dan |
Cheers Mate.
Yeah, It's the wee one. I thought that the overflow pipes were the two pipes together that are shown on the left that hang down below the exhaust. The one i'm checking on seems to connect into the same unit that the rad pipe goes into but just underneath the slightly rusty bolt to the right of the oil filler cap |
ooh, whoops. Your right, i see that and thought you had just tucked it round...
erm not too sure then :s Dan |
Sorry! - Should have added that it's the top of the pipe that isn't connected to anything at present and it the top of the pipe that's worrying me
Hope this doesn't confuse things ?!! |

No Problem.
Thanks for the quick response anyway - Love the way there's always someone willing to help on this forum!. Helps folk like me when we get stuck !! |
not sure on the k3, i'll try and check my manual for k1, but it's probably just some sort of overflow pipe, will you be using it soon?
i'd suggest you don't as it's not worth risking, how'd you knock it? |
Hi Carl,
I'm actually trying to sell it so was giving it a good clean - The sponge caught the pipe and it came loose. I wasn't really watching properly so didn't notice if it required any force or if it just fell out. The weather has turned to snow today so it'll not be coming out 'til that's cleared up - I'm going to try and get to the dealers today to see if they've got one in the showroom to check that. Will report back Thanks for your help Ed |
just looked in the Cooling section of the K3 manual here
http://www.sv650.org/sv_manuals.htm and on page 6-14 it shows that pipe coming from behind the engine cover, running under the coolant pump, then going downwards and sitting in a small clip just beside/below the starter motor. I don't know what that pipe is or where it comes from, but that's where it goes to. (PS - it looks like it comes from a short stub in the bottom of the pump which is almost certainly a drain pipe for draining the system. The bolt just above it is the drain bolt IIRC :? ) (PPS - looking further down that section, it actually looks more like it's a "weep" pipe to avoid any coolant seepage past the face seal from getting to the bearings. Seems a bit OTT if it is, it's more usual just to have a small hole :? :? ) |
