CRASH BUNGS
 

Whilst not wanting to tempt fate, i have been considering purchasing some crash bungs for my '02 SV. I only insure TPF&T and i want to keep the bike for a while.
Anyone got any experience with these? Are they worth the outlay? and which ones, where and how much should i go for? (if that makes any sense!)

There great... saved me a fortune and ment that I could still ride the bike home after some daft cow knocked my bike over.

R&G seem to be the best though I've used GSG MOTO CRASH BOBBINS with no problems.

One of the first things on my bike were the crash bungs, they are lurvely. Have a look here for info on the R&G ones.

Am thinking of buying some of these as well for my '99 SVS...R&G seem to be one of the names getting a good rating...any feedback on BikeSliders (as an altenative to R&G) from ye who have installed them??

Crash bungs are an absolute necessity.
I got away with just a broken gear lever when my bike went over quite hard the other day.

R&G are well known. JHS are recommended by a few in the know as being the best ones. Bikesliders are supposed to be good and motosliders are also good.

Most of these will cost you about £70 for whichever shape SV. The bikesliders and motosliders are cheaper but they come from the US, so postage costs get added.

I know they're not there for aesthetic reasons (aside from in the event of a crash :wink: ), but I do like the look of them compared to most bungs.

with crash bungs, you get what you pay for.

ive heard lots of people with DHM's that have just shattered offering no protection to the bike.

not heard anything bad about RnG's tho.

never heard them ceri - but they do look good.

looks like they just screw in and don't mount on an engine bolt.

I have, avoid.

Buy the JHS ones, not as 'bling' perhaps, but work properly.

The Ebay ones I suspect go in the same place as the DHMs- in the bolt in the front cylinder. Moves your bungs forward so they're less obtrusive, but also makes them narrower so they're less protective, and it's a les strong fixing (plus, in a crash they might strip the thread in your engine block or snap and leave a stub stuck in it, which would Suck.

I love my R&Gs though I've heard some downers about them recently... Not in the design, but in the manufacturing. Mine have been solid though, and saved me an absolute fortune in a 60mph slide into a gravel trap- top stuff. I'd probably go with the JHS ones if I was buying again, from what I've heard, but the R&Gs have still been fantastic for me.

And DHMs for the carbed SV appear to be utter s***, the RHS one is just ridiculously weak- mine stripped under regular torquing up, as the whole thing is held on by about 8mm of M10 thread in an aluminium spacer. I reckon I could have knocked them off with one kick. the LHS one is solid though.
