Repacking?

Hey,

I came across the term 'repacking' and was curious what it was? From what I've been told, it involves replacing bits in your exhaust? How come? Does it cost alot? How often? Thanks,

Mitch

The stuff that dampens the exhaust noise gets blown out, burnt and generally knackered, and eventually needs replacement.
Unless you've got some makes of pipe, which the makers claim never need repacking, only they do.

Drill the rivets out, pull the end caps off, wrap the exhaust packing round the exhaust tube, reassemble.

Naw, I was thinking my M4 when I get her! :)

How often do you have to repack it? Based on miles?

Mitch

When it sounds tinny.

The packing material dampens out the higher tones, when it's gone the pipe will sound a bit hollow and the exhaust note won't be so 'boomy'.

So I guess going by sound, you'd be repacking a blue flame daily.

it depends how well there packed as new mitch some companys arent so good at cramming the wool in so it burns out easy on an m4 id expect excess of 6000 easy

as for renes 4000 and they need it from new normally but i repacked mine last year and crammed em full after 4000 it still sounds more or less the same

an easy way to judge it is ride the bike the front half of the can will be noticably warmer than the rear this will be a sign that the packing is burning away

after its gone it can discoulor the external tubing of the can
