What insurance should I go for?

Well, I've got a few options here, and I'm not sure which to choose... All have £250 excess

Bikesure have offered me £4500 as a fixed value quote, subject to engineers reports and valuations of the mods. That was £440 TPF&T, £770 FC, included other bike cover, legal cover, and personal injury, but the engineers report would be difficult to arrange at the moment since I can't ride the bike, and their closest approved garage isn't exactly handy. Also, no pillions.

Carole Nash offered £316 TPF&T, £640 FC, not fixed value but with full cover of all the parts... That's with the bike valued at £2400, and the mods at the same again  Since it's not a fixed price, there's more likely to be disputes about covering the aftermarket bits, but it's cheaper and much, much less hassle. Also that includes breakdown cover (which would save me the cost of my RAC renewal), other bike cover, and legal cover

Last, Virgin offered me £595,much the same as CN but without any of the frills- no other bike cover, no legal, no breakdown. £300 TPF&T. I don't really think this makes any sense but I've included it anyway.

Still waiting for a quote back from the Biketeam.

So, what should I choose from those so far? I reckon the Virgin ones don't make sense for the savings I get, sincethe legal cover is obviously a good thing in the event of a disputed accident, and it saves me paying for breakdown. But at those prices, FC or TPF&T? Fixed value or regular?

Last year was easy, only one company would insure me and the FC was £1300 :)

Thanks guys!

If they read about your exploits on this forum I reckon they'd up that premium significantly!!!

What they don't know can't hurt them...

Yet

Northwind for my and other people's benefit can you get a quote from CIA Insurance?

having read advice from Sincs, the bikesure one including personal injury sounds like it should be given proper consideration even though it's a bit more pricey.

Hey, I'm not doing business with any espionage agencies... Their website's the exact same as the Virgin one, curiously... I might call 'em tomorrow.

Tincan, I'm going to get a bit more details from Carole Nash on the FC policy they were offering, they said it covers personal injury and gear, but didn't go into it in any details... I had Sincs' experience in mind as well.

Went with Highway through CIA insurance- good tip Andrew! Biketeam continued mucking me about, so I gave up on them...

26 year old rider with 0 years license, 1 years no claims, officially no accidents :) Garaged at night in a pretty good postcode, 15000 miles...

For the mods, I did a total for the cost of tarting up another SV to the same extent as mine, without labour, and it'd be almost as much as the bike itself  Valued the bike at £2500, which seems to be in line with the Top Sekrit Book Values, and I've agreed a new-for-old replacement scheme on all declared aftermarket parts, covering everything but the paint job. I am not going to tell you how much that would cost them :)

£560 FC  Or £280 TPF&T, but I've gone with the FC- it gets me a lower excess (£200 instead of £300), full RAC membership, £50000 legal cover, 15000 mile limit, 3 months European breakdown and legal cover including accident recovery and repatriation costs from any EU state (handy...) and allows pillions.

Still need to give them a set of photos of the bike, a full list of exactly what's been done, and evidence to back my valuations- receipts and prices from dealers. And they've worked into my small print that I can make my colour change and up to 3 other changes without admin charges, which is nice- I'll definately have things to add this year.

Last year it would have been pretty difficult to justify FC, but this year one bad 30mph drop onto either side will almost certainly do enough damage to make it worth claiming... Either takes out the Ohlins reservoir or the exhaust system  Plus the bike's going to be carrying a bit more plastic. The poor guy I got on the phone had to spend about 20 minutes phoning back and forwards to confirm my list of demands :)

No medical cover in an own-fault accident, which is much what I expected, getting that was going to cost an unrealistic amount- instead I've taken out a 5-year personal injury policy through my bank which costs about 1/4 as much and gives me better cover- and I did check that it covers me on the bike. Even covers trackdays! Made a lot more sense.
