Thought I would pass this on - a topic close to my heart and seemingly 8770 other prople's too, thought you guys might want to add your support...

I'm sure you've seen Jamie Oliver's new TV series over the past couple of
weeks. There is now a website called
www.feedmebetter.com <http://www.feedmebetter.com/> which links into
the show. On the site there is a petition - if you wish to show your
support for the 'Feed Me Better' school dinners campaign then do please
sign up to it. Total count at the moment is 8770 (rising every minute)
and we are aiming for 20,000 ...

I saw this week's show - I was just gobsmacked that the local doc has to run a constipation clinic - some kids don't do a dump for up to 6 weeks cos they eat no fibre. It's storing up future colon cancer.

And the MD of the company that supplies dinners - said they offer junk food cos they believe in choice - he's 'aving a larf :toss:

Turkey Twizzlers are no longer being supplied, the supplier has removed them from the menu as of this week!

the schools in our county have started t his new healthy eating thing and its crap

i do dinnerhall duty a couple of days a week and i see kids having slices of dry bread and bottle of water or a couple of slices of lettuce they are all charged £1.37 irrespective of what they have to eat.

numbers taking school dinners have dropped from approximately 200 to about 60

My opinion of Jamie Oliver has been changed totally by these progs. I must confess I had no time for him, but this issue is something he believes in with a passion, and all respect to him.

The most basic thing as demonstrated clearly in the progs so far to anyone with half a brain cell is that you can't just sail in and change the menu because kids being what they are will just rebel against it.

First you've got to understand the psychology of kids, and you've got to involve them and sell the idea, otherwise the peer pressure, lack of confidence, fear even, will just mean they reject the whole thing, which is what NT seems to be witnessing.

I despair at the lack of psychological awareness and understanding shown by our "leaders" in so many things, such as crime, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy etc., and now apparently school meals. They make such basic mistakes, it's so depressing. :roll:

Whatever happened to Domestic Science?

I watched his last show and was sad to see a parent shopping who did not appear to know about vegetables.

My kids have been brought up to eat a healthy diet, good meat, lots of locally grown vegetables, and seasonal fruit. We drink skimmed milk and do not have sugar. However at school their lunch choice seemed to be chips, burgers, pizza.

what saddens me is when my kids friends have visited and I give them a meal, to hear the don't likes and don't wants. What a pity I am deaf to to that and they get it on their plates.

I remember one child who gave me a "Don't want trees" when she saw me serving broccolli, She is now a vegetarian :) .

My neighbours daughter often visits us, it is fantastic to see her eat a good healthy meal. Whilst her parents seem to disagree on most things, the one thing they both agree on is no processed junk. fresh fruit and vegetables.

Mmm....deep fried Mars bars...yummy.
Here they do deep fried twinkies and chocolate covered cheesecake....now, the cheesecake...that's something that has to be eaten to be appreciated! :lol:

School dinners, what junk they were, it was such crap that I figured they'd kill me pretty quickly with all the cholesterol....so I spent the money on ciggies instead...just another form of self sacrifice. :roll: :shock: :wink:
