Filtering fun and a near miss...

Here's a scenario for you.

I’m filtering down a row of stationary traffic waiting to exit a junction left into Farnham's two lane one way system. I get to the second car from the front and pull into the gap between the cars. Car in front pulls out so I’m now in front - waiting for a suitable gap.

Next thing i know, mondeo man (who was behind me) decides to squeeze into the gap to my left! Gap in traffic appears - i pull out and so does he - better still he wants to cross into the right hand of the two lanes along with me. I get my nose in front and put my palm up to him - suggesting that maybe he'd like to back off.

50 yards down the road there's a lorry parked up in right-hand lane that we're in. I signal to merge into the traffic in the left-hand lane and mondeo man guns his car into the gap virtually cutting me up into the lorry.

I catch him up and a few choice words are exchanged (not repeatable on a U rated site). It's obvious to me in this exchange though that he feels completely justified in his actions.

I continue my ride to work fuming and wondering if this chap really would have felt good about causing an accident. Calmer now - I’m looking back at the incident and wondering if I could have done anything better. Thoughts?

Sounds like a typical car owner - believes he owns the road.

Seems to be a morning for idiots in cars. I'm waiting at a junction where there are 3 lanes, I'm in the middle lane. I'm in a car and both myself and the car to my left is waiting for the traffic to clear on the other side of the no-stop junction before continuing straight on. The traffic moves slightly so both myself and the car to my left move off, straight ahead. About a second later a Corsa in the right hand lane accelerates away and cuts in front of myself AND the car in the left hand lane to take the left turning at the junction  If I had accelerated away in my usual fashion, I would have hit him, as it is, I felt the ABS kick in.

He probably has a small c*ck.

File it in the drawer maker "Experience" and move on.

There was probably not much you could have done save let him have his way, in the sure knowlege that you will filter past him very soon anyway, then give his mirrors a bit of a nudge just to make you point.

I'm with Mogs on this one.

Anger is a completely useless emotion. Daresay that the driver didn't give you a second thought, and how does you 'fuming' affect him? Not at all. How does it affect you? - makes you uptight and more likely to have less concentration, equals increased risk of accident. Jabba's right, dump it and move on.

Wot he said.....

I used to lose it, but now I find that letting have their way then a good punch on a door mirror as filter passed later always makes me feel better. Or, if he's stuck in the traffic, pull up next to him with you visor up and gently tap on the window. When it opens shout :toss: at him and ride off. You will not put yourself at so much of a risk and you really will feel better for it

An absolute :toss: but getting angry is only likey to cloud your judgement and cause you to make a mistake.

Much better to smile smuggly to yourself as you pass him 50 yards later!

Yup - think you guys (& gals) have hit the nail on the head. The lesson learned was that i probably just should have let him go at the first junction and that would have been an end to it - but you know what it's like

Still feeling better now that i've occupied my time usefully animating my avatar. <<<<< 8)

You should have expected him to get arsey after you'd made such an obvious and brutal attack on his masculinity.
Have a good swear and move along!
Like the avatar btw!

Cool! But I think the engine mounts are knackered mate. That's those awful IL4's for you.
