First track day :-)

Last weekend was my first track day. I was a little worried to begin with as I was one of the smallest CC bikes in the group (SV650 naked). There were R1's a plenty.

After getting through the first few sessions I started to get into the swing of things and I am pleased to say the SV stood up really well. I even managed to overtake a few riders by going around the outside of them through the bends. I would get overtaken on the straights, but thats ok.

My bike was sitting between 6 and 9,000 rpm all day and never missed a beat. At the end of the day I took the tape off my lights and indicators etc and rode home. What excellent bikes SV650's are :-)

To anyone thinking of doing a track day, just do it :-) It's the best fun you can have with your clothes on!

I've done a few track days and the SV is a top tool for it, though I think at fast tracks like Donny it might be a bit dwarfed. Not difficult to be half-way down the straights at Cadwell before anyone comes past you though.

Have you got stiffer fork springs? I've got the emulators as well, fitted them first and they help a lot with control under braking as well as in general. Eventually I fitted stiffer springs and it's worth it, much better control under hard braking and when you're flicking it around.

Yes I fitted 0.90 springs when I did the emulators. The front end felt so much better after that. Combined with pirelli diablo tyres the bike handles really well. I think some braided lines and better pads might be my next mod when I can afford it.

well done

bit of a derail davros i notice you have woodruff key down as a mod

would you say it works ???? or not ??? did you do it as a seperate thing or as a couple of things at the same time ?

I liked it... Does nothing much for peak but the midrange push is excellent. Jonboy's either done it or he's just about to do it as well...
Apparently it's no use with a higeher tuned bike though...

plannin to do my first track day on the SV in a couple of weeks
at cadwell all beein well

any tips or info would be appreciated

do u need to tape up lights and mirrors etc

can u get fuel at the circuit?

northwind 11-03-05 11:33 PM

oh aye, smaller bikes have a huge advantage over big ones- nothing to live up to :) It's the first-timer on the R1 who should be worried :)

I did the woodruff key a while ago now. For me it made a big difference in the torque at the lower end of the rev range. You wouldn't think that such a little thing can make a big difference, but is does.

Bit of a pain to do, but definately worth doing. Get a dealer to do it for you if you are a bit unsure.

Jessie, tips for track day would be -
I went through heaps of fuel, twice as much as normal road riding.
Also the tape I used for lights and indicators left a sticky mess behind after I pulled it off. So maybe test some tape first.
I found at the end of the day my ears were ringing, so take some ear plugs. Finally, just enjoy it :-)
