Changing a choke cable

Has anybody done this before? I think mine is on its way and i was looking at how to remove it. It looks like a right pain in the ar$e to get to the screw holding the one end into the front carb. should i just get a dealer to do it?
Any advice?

can be awkward to get to... you can always lift the carbs out...

I had help doing mine a month or so ago, took a good half hour or so but fairly easy job really

Cheers ian

did you have to lift your carbs or can it be reached with a long screwdriver?

Iansv 21-03-05 05:05 PM

It can be reached I think but my carbs were out for a clean anyway

For some reason iv always been a bit reluctant to do any thing which means messing with the carbs. Is there any risk of sending them out of ballance by taking them off? :?

Iansv 21-03-05 05:11 PM

nope, just remember where everything goes.... and when you lift them out put a rag or something over the cylinders so nothing falls in

Nice one  I feel More confident about having a crack at it now.

Tell me about it! Iv just been and spent 2 hours getting the carbs off, everything went fine exept those screws. I got em off eventualy but i think i might try and get some new ones when i fit the new cable. What is the thread size?

I've got it written down somewhere in my List of Things to Get Stainless For... If I can find it I'll let you know. It's the same size as either an Oxford or Probolts screen bolt- don't ask me how I know, right, and especially don't ask what my carbs are held together with.
