SV1000 feedback . . .
Hi guys anyone who reads the irish forums will be aware of the horror story i had with my Mille so at the moment while im recovering im toying with the idea of changing to an sv1000.
Mainly because i do a lot of commuting as well as the odd weekend blast so the mille is not best suited not to mention its reliability problems. So basically im looking some feedback from sv1000 owners, preferably people who have done a few thousand miles, hows the reliability, comfort, servicing costs, tank range, etc etc Hopefully ill get a good trade in with my mille and change back to an sv. |
Shame the Mille did not work out as it is a great bike.
I have had my SV1000 for about a yeay, and have done about 2900 miles. I have had no reliability issues, only a minor coolant leak which was fixed under warranty (just needed the hoses tightening up). The SV has stacks of power for 'everyday' riding. The seat is comfy enough for an hour or so (you can also fit a gel seat which makes a difference). Tank range - normally get about 110 before the light comes on. Rear tyre is just aboudy ready for a change at 2900 miles - a bit squared off as I do quite a lot of pillion riding. You will notice that the handling may not be as refined as the mille due to the cheaper parts, however if you want a relatively cheap, reliable. quick V twin then I would definatley recommend the SV. Lots more info about the SV1000 can be found here:- www.sv1000.zyns.com |
sharpy, have a look on the SV1000 sister site
www.sv1000.zyns.com I've had my SV1000s for 18 months and done 19k miles. good reliable bike, nice and fast (not up to the mille though), keeps up with most fast bikes, and because of its torque, it can even beat some from the line. Cheap to service, plenty of mods available. build quality is typical suzuki (thin paint, low quality furry bolts etc) I commute 75 miles a day, throughout the year, and the bike didnt let me down at all. |
thanks for the feedback guys, im still waiting to hear back from aprillia about the mille but i dont intend to keep it dont have much confidence in it now.
it really is a fantastic bike, the dream bike ive always wanted but its just not practical for everyday use, the back break is non-existant and requires bleeding every 1000miles same goes with the clutch which was the cause of my slip, aprillia released a service bulletin to dealers infoming them of the clutch issues, apparently caused by air getting into it yet there was no recall issued for the bikes, i was one of the unfortunates who discovered at about 50mph that my clutch failed. I dont regret selling my sv650 had 3 great years with it but wanted to move on to bigger and better things, the mille seems more suited to a sunday biker who has a car the rest of the time, not for everyday use, but ah well live and learn. So yeah hopefully ill get myself a sv1000 and enjoy some cheaper insurance and hassle free biking. Thx again folks |
I've had a SV1000 for 6 months now and I don't think you'll be disapointed.
