I've been given some funny looks, but that could be my black as a crow's **** visor.....

Not surprised if you get funny looks if you are being pulled by the fuzz. Personally I would pull some odd faces if I was being pulled by it too!!

can you get points on your licence for a road legal can, with the baffles removed (illegal)???

Coz, if the can is not road legal, the bike is not road worthy, therefore insurance VOID. So, a illegal can also means riding without insurance, is that true and if so what is/ are the likely consiquences????

As far as I'm aware, you cannot be prosecuted for no insurance if it's voided in that way. The reason being, 3rd party cover (as required under the Road Traffic Act) cannot be voided.
The insurance company can, however, sue you for their losses.
You will normally only be given a rectification notice.

Is it possible to get a non-legal can stamped? (or 'personally engraved') ;) ;)

Forgot about that insurance thing - so I guess my Yoshimura Tri Oval race can will void my insurance?? If so I better cancel my order and then get the road legal version - seems pointless to void Fully Comp insurance for the sake of an exhaust being a bit louder.

Insurance wise you can go down at least two routes:
1. Dont bother telling them and take a chance should anything happen. Base this decision on the fact that despite reading a lot of posts here I cant remember anyone having got into problems this way (although some stato will no doubt correct me)
2. Ring up and declare it. Companys often have a grading system. I think Bennets allowed me up to 5% increase in HP with no extra premium. Youll be lucky to get >5% unless you mod a bit. Bennets were more concerned if the can was more expensive. Given a stock can will be well over £300 (I think someone said £600!) your fine on that score.

If you go down route 2 then you have only the 'fuzz' to worry about, and thats just a producer.

I'm a generally law abiding paranoid person and I was ok

Can I declare a "Not For Road Use" can though to an insurance company for a bike that is blatantly going to be used on the road?

The can I have ordered is not road legal under any shape or form :)

Regardless if I declare it - surely if I crashed, then put a claim in - they would know I was using an NFRU can and void my claim. This is what I'm worried about, not a £25 fine and a producer. My bike cost me nearly £4,000 which if I write off, and it's my fault - would be a lot of money to sling away.

Well others have, but maybe they said nothing on the can someone will carify.

Im getting the vibes here tho that road legal removable baffle can might be a better option for you tho. At least that covers all bases and if anything untoward happens you can slip the baffles back in.

But it may not have NFRU stamped on anyhow, it may be just not emarked
