birdgestone or metzeler ??
Time has come to change my tyres. Question is, to which ?
I currently have Metzeler ME Z4 which have done 12107 miles so pretty good I think. I'm thinking of sticking with Metzeler and getting the Z6, I do a lot of motorway miles so need a hard wearing tyre which I believe the Z6 are. But I've also been advised to get the Bridgestone BT-020, another hard wearing tyre. There isn't much difference in price so what do people recommend ?? Bike is used everyday from Blackburn to Manchester and a little bit of playing on me days off. Ta |
Well... from people in the know, and from those who've tried both.. the Z6 seems to be the answer.
The 020's are a good tyre, but they're dated, not as good as they used to be, and most significantly of all - they're expensive. They don't do that much mileage either! I'm on 020's at the moment, and my next set will be Z6's. The boys at Essential Rubber recommend them, and seem to think they're a good mileage eater. If Rictus got 13,000 from them, then they must be! They've a nice sharp profile too, and drop into corners quite confidently - they warm up quite fast too. |
Well as the max I got out of one rear 020 was 3500 miles my next set will be the Conti Road Attacks. The Z6's will probably be every bit as good and by all accounts will last even longer.
One point to consider though, is that the longer a tyre is on the bike the more it squares off giving you ever decreasing performance and more importantly (lack of) confidence in the tyre. One of the reasons I only want to change sets of tyres now rather than trying to get two rears to a front, is as by the time you're halfway through the second rear the front has gone off so badly that it becomes a challenge IMHO to corner confidently. Everyone has a different viewpoint of course but that's the way I see it. . |
Moved to Reviews/ Tyres  I'm going for the Conti Road Attacks next.

I agree with what Billy and Jonboy said. The 020s are good, but there are better now and the mileage isn't as good as it could be. I'm trying Z6s next as well, gonna see if I can beat 10k miles (and if Rictus can, I probably can.) |
I've recently gone from 020's to Z6s on my bandit 600 so far very happy with them and apparently they last for ages, not had a chance to get them on the track (did brands hatch on the 020s last year) but 100mph+ cornering has not given a slip or slide yet
Wouldn't go back to 020's as they die way too fast for a touring tyre in my view. Apparently the contiforce road attacks are another good one to go for |

8000 miles on my SV1000 ! Very pleasing I don't doubt that the Z6s are good, but having had an excellent experience with the Contis, I'd recommend them wholeheartedly. And they're cheap. I like that. |
Cheap as motorcycle tyres go anyway
