SELF SERVICE?

My K4 is due for its 4000 mile service, the bike is obviously still under the 2 year suzuki warranty.

i have the Suzuki workshop manual and the service information.

what i want to know is, if i carry out the work myself in accordance with Suzuki recomendations, using oem parts will my warrenty remain valid.

i dont trust my dealer. and i dont want to hand them my hard earned dosh for something im quite capable of doing myself.

so, warrenty valid or invalid?

technically invalid, but if you keep all the parts reciepts and in the event of a warranty problem you can prove you know what your doing then your ok.

Personally i'd rather take it to a dealer when under warranty just to get the stamps if your planning to resell, just tell them not to do the oil/filter changes and you can save a bit doing them yourself and still get the stamps

once its out of warranty, like mine is, I'll do most of it myself

I 'did it myself' with K&N parts (as the robbin' git of a dealer in Harrogate wanted £170 for doing it  )

I'd recommend it TBH

My K5 has just had its first free (erm £33) service. I asked about the 4000 mile, was told that I can do it myself without affecting the warrentee, keep evidence of parts used, (receipts etc). If a subsequent warrentee claim is due to my cack handed work then that would be invalid, as possibly also the resale value may be marginally affected.
I will be doing my own serviceing from now on, or at least paying someone competent in beer and pizza if nescessary! My last bike (Hornet) was dealer serviced, they made a real **** of it. One time they even broke the speedo with their jetwasher. Even this time, on my free service they lubed the chain to excess, I had to clean it off the tyre when I got home.

Padgetts in Batley want £140 but thats a friend price as my bikes from them, i am not happy about giving someone £140 though just to change my oil and filter,

as far as having a service history goes, i was told that a bike without a full history is woth about %5 less, but the servicinover the warrenty period will probably cost me about 15% of the value....
