Few Niggles

Hi Folks

Its been a while since ive posted on here, (been watching from the back).

Anyway, I had trouble starting my bike last year (2002 svs), basically from cold it would only start on 1 cylinder with full choke. Since I have serviced it and it would then start on two cylinders on full choke. Now I started it the other day (been sat in the sun all day) so i didnt use the choke. Its started on both cylinders (checked this by touching the exhaust pipes - they both got warm at the samew time). Now once started the revs were only at 1000 max. It would cut out if i tried to rev it, so I left it alone and gradually as it got warm the revs came to around 1400. Firstly is this normal (im quite new to biking with not very many miles under my belt). Now I started it yesterday earky morning so it was well cold, used some choke and it coughed and spluttered before finally picking up.
So do i have to use choke to start the bike regardless of temperature?
Is there anything that i can check out (except the front plug cover - done it its bone dry) that will help me.

Sorry is this is the normal practice but i just need some suggestions.

Thanks

On a warm day i've never used choke... But to be fair, bikes can vary a fair bit with things like that. Try it a few more times, it's possible it was a spot of debris in the carbs, bad fuel, a slightly wet plug or some such.

Where's your idle speed at when warm?

Hi

The idle speed when warm is around 1200-1300.
I just wanted to know if anybody else has the same, and its just a put with the niggle solution. Or start delving deeper.

Thanks for the reply

I always need choke to start a cold engine, even on a hot day.

A cold engine, when reved, might cut out without the choke on.

From what you say it sounds pretty normal to me.

My God, there's 2 of us!

Sorry nothing to add, just thought I'd comment.

I'm just struggling to get the hang of manual choke, i think it's ok to turn it off, go to pull off and have every bugger laughing coz it stalls.

Choke if bike has been sitting for a long while, cold or warm weather. I used to run chcoke on the bike in the morning in the summer for about 10 seconds, and not at all for the ride home. Choke all the time in the winter.
