Clutch cable snapped on a 99 plate.
Bugger!
Got to work this morning after thinking that the clutch felt a bit draggy. Thought I would just tweak it at the lever end and adjust it properly tonight. Pulled back the rubber flap at the lever and the cable outer was really loose in the adjuster. I thought that doesn't look right. Pulled the lever and PING! Kin cable snapped. Question. Can I get any old clutch cable or do I have to buy Suzuki? Difficulty to fit out of 5, 1 being easy, 5 being a ****er! Is it a road side fix as the bike is stuck at work. |
Fitting is a 1.
I'd get a Suzuki cable, I've fitted a couple of 'equivalent' cables, with varying degrees of quality and fit, a genuine one is about £15 or so, patterns are only a bit cheaper, not worth it unless it's a good quality one, which is hard to tell 'til you've got it. Assuming the outer cable is in reasonable nick - no kinks or damage to the sleeve - don't throw your old cable away, there are a number of companies who will put a new inner cable into your outer, rather cheaper than a new cable, a useful spare, particularly if you do as I do I have and keep a spare cable, lubed well and with the ends taped up to keep it dry and oiled, routed roughly into place so as to make changing it should it break an easy roadside job without any bodywork/tank removal. In London there is Speedy Cables who will do this. Portsmuff I don't know. Also if you go to a shop that that does bits for dirt bikes, you can buy a kit in a tin that has lengths of various thickness cables, and screw on nipples, not a permanent solution - I find the nipples don't last long, but it's another way of not being stranded when a cable breaks. |
Cheers Ian,
Another problem solved by the evil Dr Squid. How many pints is that I owe you now???  |
None at all, you're quite welcome.

Just ordered a new clutch cable from Suzuki dealers (Sid Squid falls over in shock) and it was £10  . Thought it would be much more, so I'm a happy bunny.

I fited one last week, so if I can do it anyone can. Though I think they gave me a N cable by mistake as it was a bit long and I had to 're-route' it but its all dandy now. :D
