Horn has gone mute

Anyone had a problem with their horn?

Mine was working fine, in fact I had the bike MOT'ed last week and this weekend I went to press it to warn a car that was pulling out and nothing happened.

I don't believe it is the fuse as the book says that I would loose my neutral light as well as other other things. I have checked the connection and that looks fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences?

The horn gets a lot of water thrown at it, and horns do rust & stop working. Check to see if the wires or spades have rotted and fallen apart (mine do). If they seem OK, temporarily replace the horn with a bulb, that'll check that power is being supplied to the horn. If the horn itself really is screwed, then it's a good excuse to replace it with a pair of Fiamms or similar (scared the life out of my GF when I fitted a pair to her NTV :) ).

You could try checking to see how it is positioned. Once after I had changed plugs on mine (you have to remove horn bolt to move the radiator to gain access to front cylinder) I hadn't re-located the horn in the optimum position once I had put it all back together again. As a result I think, if I remember correctly, the horn was rubbing against the radiator. When I went to use it, it made a very dull sqwawking noise. Put it in correct position and hey presto - my horn was fully functional (Fnarr! Fnarr! ).

my horn would stop working on long journeys as its fitted behind the radiator on SK3's. On long journeys the heat from the radiator heated up the horn, so that the horn internals would expand, and the horn would make a hiss or quiet buzz..

I replaced it with one in the faring, and have had no problems since.

MCN has one listed in their new gear bit today, £9.99 and 137dB  , perfect excuse to buy a new one?
