TRE Mod, Help!?!?!

Hey yesterday I tried to do the TRE mod and when I connected the resistor to the plugs, and turned my bike on I got the FI light and a blinking digital FI also... I know I connected it right, but just to make sure, Pink & Black wires into the ends of the female connectors i attached on the resistor? One resistor for 2 wires? That doesn't sound right... I'm plugging the wires together at the resistor... Am I using the wrong resistor. 1/2watt 15ohm resistor.

Now that I think about it... Why am i connecting the pink into one end of the resistor and the blank and white into the other end... shouldn't they be separate? Please help.

Oh and yes I've reconnected it back to stock and it's fine...

bit of theory:

the two wires connect to the gear position sensor, which basically applies a different resistance across the wires depending on what gear you're in. The TRE fools the ECU into thinking the bike is always in top gear, so all you're doing is disconnecting the gear position sensor and replacing it with a fixed resistance equivalent to what the gps would give in top gear.

All I can think is that you're either connecting the resistor the the wrong side of the circuit, leaving an open circuit on the ECU, or that you've got a bad contact somewhere. If you have a test meter, its time to dig it out. If not, I wouldn't worry, you're not missing all that much

Shouldn't the resistor be connected to the "live" wire only?

You need to connect the resistor to both the pink & the black wires to make a complete circuit.

Have a look on the main webpage (http://www.sv650.org) and you will find a button on the left hand side, labelled 'FAQ's & How To's.'
In that section, if you scroll down nearly to the bottom of the page, you will find a how-to with photos which I put together to show exactly how to do this mod.

You mention 15ohm in your text!!!!!! try a 15K ohm unless you have made a tying error!

Kash

Mine worked ok.

Ah yes! Well spotted, that man!

15 Ohm is incorrect - you need a 15k (15,000) Ohm resistor.

Yes a 15 ohm resistor will be the same to the fuel injection computer as a dead shoet so it will start flashing up error codes.
