Central rear fairing replacement
 

Hi folks,

A while back I was asking regarding the bit of plastic that goes between above the brake lights and the seat cowl. I've now got one of these and am looking to fit it.

I can get the retaining plastic 'split pins', easily enough, but there are also 2 philips head screws underneath it, 'inside' the rear fairing under the pillion seat.

Even taking the metal clip that my seat cowl fits into off, I'm still having difficulty getting at them. Very cramped and the subframe seems to get in the way.

So, is it possible to undo these and do them back up reasonably tightly as it is, or do I need to whip off all the rear fairing to get at it?

Another one of those '10 minute jobs' that ends up taking a couple of hours :)

Surely someone here has replaced theirs after scuffing theirs doing a 12 o'clock wheelie on a de-snow ploughed bike? :wink:

Ceri. It takes 10 mins to whip the whole rear section off mate. Its impossible to to it in situ.

easiest to remove the whole tail in one piece then screw it out imho. It is also better to use a spanner or socket as I found I couldn't get enough torque on the bolt to break it free with the driver.

IF it's the bit I think you're talking about, it's best to dismantle the entire rear fairing.

The brakelights kind of hold it all together at the back, so for a good fit, it'd be better if you did dismantle.

Yes, it's the one we were talking about before. Time to print off a couple of exploded view diagrams from the parts schematic, methinks.

Anything I should be aware of/cautious about breaking whilst taking the back end to bits?
