Can't freewheel the bike when it's in gear (quick)
Right,
Long story short, my battery doesn't have enough juice to start the bike. I've a friend just about to leave to help me bump the bike but i just had a go on my own and i can't actually push the bike in second without turning over the engine, even with the clutch all the way in? Is there a fix for this (assuming it's not normal...), a clutch adjustment somewhere? Just about to dive into haynes |
Push along in N and then select 2nd once you have enough speed. It does sound like you need to adjust the clutch though.

I just took nearly all the play out of the clutch and it still does it. Is it something to do with the way bike gear boxes work? Obviously it wouldn't happen in a car box.
|
Sounds like it might need adjusting at the gearbox end. Do what Swiss said and push the bike in neutral with the clutch in then jump on and engage 2nd.

Why do i get the feeling i'm about to drop her for the first time...
|
OK, so you stay on the bike whilst your (soon to be ex)mate pushes you up and down the carpark :D
Oh, and if you drop her, aparantly there are more spares for the left side so make sure she goes down on that side  |
i left my sidelights on by accient and flattened my battery.
i tried to move it in first with the clutch all the way in, i did feel a lot of resistance, i assumed this was normal of a bike clutch..... is it not? i ended up 9like they say here) getting pushed in N then dropping it into 2nd and it started a treat. :) so is my clutch out of adjustment? |
jump start it off a car battery(engine not running), is easier, and if your a light guy like me you wont be able to bump it as it just locks up the rear wheel
|
Managed to get her bumped with the help of a mate, just needed a lot of speed and the clutch feathered in, not dropped as that locked the back wheel.
I'm still a little concerned about the slight drag when in gear (though the bike doesn't creep when started and in gear, any ideas if this is normal? |
very slight drag is normal, but it will be down to the cable adjustment
