Backfire(ing) on purpose!

No and again I see and hear people of IL4s backfiring, but on purpose, with a much louder bang. I have heard that this is done by using the engine kill switch.... any of you chaps do this? If so what is the exact procedure? :D

Rev it to 7-8k, flick the kill switch off and on quickly whilst maintaining an open throttle.

Cannot vouch for the engine if you keep doing this though.

Am I right in thinking that this only works on carbed bikes?

won't work on your bike as it has fuel injection AFAIK

Two things, firstly beware where you do this as it really can cause offence and is precisely the sort of thing that the police are looking for to issue out ASBOs. Secondly understand that you can cause valve damage by doing this, the reppair bill could be enormous and you'd invalidate any warranty if your bike is under two years old.

Technique? Open throttle and whilst keeping open flick the kill switch off for a second and then back on again. Unburnt fuel will have gone into the exhaust and is ignited once the engine is firing again.

TSM will tell you how to do it on the vtwin

but not really advisable to do, especially on a cold engine :?
