GSX-R front end on an SV??

Hello all, I'd appreciate a little of your wordly knowledge and expertise if I may!!
I have just bought a 2000 curvy SV650 that has a GSXR frontend and wheels, the clocks which are SV OE, do not register speed, the gy I bought it off says this might be cos the speedo pickup form the GSXR front end is electric not cable, or the other way round, any one got any ideas for a fix??
Also, there seemed to be a little bit of oil running down the outside of the exhaust pipe as it feeds out of the engine, could this be an oil leak of any sort?
Again, the yokes and front forks could do with a good clean, what can I use to bring out the shine, a brillo pad??!
Thanks guys,
BN

GSXR front ends dont have a speed pickup on the front wheel. He should have made an attachment to fit it to the front sprocket.

All curvey SVs except the SV400 have electric pickups on the front wheel.

Someone else will come here and explain more.

You can mount the speedo drive onto the rear axle with the carbed model SV, much betet solution than mucking about with the front sprocket method.

With teh oil, there shouldn't be oil in the piston head to leak out :) But it's possible you've got a damaged head gasket or (if it's teh rear pot) cam chain tensioner/gasket...

Northwind...
Sh*te, that whole head gasket problem sounds nasty, are there other symptoms that I can look for??

That I don't know... See if you can figure out exactly where you're losing oil from, that'll tell you more. Don't get too worries though, it could still be something perfectly innocent.

Is it the front pot or the rear?

er...pot?

the exhaust pipe directly behind the front wheel [i.e the one coming out directly forwards and then going thru 180 deg. towards the can] had oil smear on it.
Hope this, er, helps??!

Cylinder :) I wouldn't get too wound up about that, unless there's a lot of oil or the level's dropping a lot. Clean it right up as well as you can and see where it starts and finishes if it happens again, I think.

(It's this bike by the way, guys) http://i23.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/2b/b5/d3_1_b.JPG
Jealous? Me? :)

Brand New 12-06-05 09:49 PM

Hey!! That's my bike!!!
And you? Jealous? you shouldn't be, you're looking at £1600, with broken speedo, full yoshi system, dynoed and jetted, and a restrictor kit and certificate for when I sell it on.
I would much rather have your knowledge and experience, [okay, AND the bike...]
I'll throw up some other, better photos when I get it all cleaned up.
And if I can thank you and everyone else in advance for all the help I'm going to be asking for!!
Thanks,
BN :D

The knowledge and experience'll come... And when it does you'll still have a kick-ass bike :)

You bought this bike off ebay?

Looks like GSXR 1100 front forks, uses a mechanical speedo drive(LHS of axle) and speedo. I've got a speedo drive for it, but you may need to swop the speedo for a GSXR or RGV item, basically the same. May have one somewheres but the best clockset would be off the GSXR1100N, had a nice alloy fascia and looks the best on a gixer type front end.

Like that JMC arm, very nice. Rear wheel is off slingshot gixer, I can tell by the curved spokes. Later models got straight spokes like the SV.
