have I broken my gear box?

I was reading a thread 'somewhere' about how to do a 2nd gear power wheelie on an SV and yes your right it does work! \:D/

The only problem is I took my new found skill to excess and now I think ive broken something! I usually wheelie off the clutch and I do quite often aswell so this may well of contributed.

Anyway, I was on a nice long flat road with no people (its about 4 miles of straight road), put it in 2nd, bounced the forks blah blah blah. Up comes the front wheel, then what I can only imagine to be clutch slip brought the front wheel crashing back to the floor with a thud ( I landed with the front wheel nice and straight and there were no wobbles etc ) BUT then my bike wouldnt change out of 2nd gear for about 2 miles, it was locked solid.

Eventually after alot of accelerating and braking, it free'd itself up but now the gear change is amazingly stiff its real effort to get the lever to move at all.

So ive broken it basically yes  ?

Its not been my week, the other day ( I swear this is true ) I was in sainsburys carpark with my mate on the back and on my way out there were cars queing at the exit barriers and one of them was half way under the exit barrier so it was staying open, so my mate goes ' GO FOR IT!! YOU WONT HAVE TO PAY THEN!!'

So with about 30 metres to go, I made a break for the open barrier to save myself £1.20, as I got really close the car moved off and the barrier closed but I was goin to fast to stop, So I had go between the gap between the end of the barrier and the wall.

Unfortunately it wasnt quite big enough, I had to lift my left leg right up to avoid it being dragged along a concrete wall and instead the whole left side of my fairing took the brunt and is now completely wrecked

My bike is in tatters  , I shouldnt laugh it aint funny

Gearbox problem? Tell me about it! But I have not even been misbehaving! :? 8)

I'd reckon it's more likely a clutch problem - All that 0% to 100% throttle is savage on the old friction disc, could it be not disengaging now?
Sounds nasty that you're struggling to upshift easily gearbox bearings? yum

Hope it just goes away mate :D

Sounds like gearbox, mine was very hard to put into first. got a new gearbox. bout £200. The labours the expensive part though!

possibly a bent selector fork??

Dan_SV 13-06-05 05:36 PM

So long as you can get all the gears, all the gears themselves will be ok. If all the gears are there, then it will probably be something wrong with the selector drum, or selector forks, or if your really lucky, the detent star, or if your mega lucky, the detent star arm spring.

What does the gear lever actually feel like? Any noises when riding along?

Danno.
