Next stage after can?
I fitted my LeoVince road/race exhaust a while ago and i'm well chuffed with it but was wondering where to go next. It pops a bit when letting off and goind down through the gears etc, and was wondering if its worth getting the power commander / BMC filter (JHS) and what it'll actually do. Is it just "plug and play". Also saw advert for TRE screaming, "if you have a fuel injected Suzuki you need this!" WHY???

The TRE mod, in my opinion is a bit of a con, and here is why:
On the K3's and later, the ignition timing is retarded in gears 1-5, when the throttle is less than 50%. So... by that statement, the ignition isn't retarted when the throttle is open more than 50%. So, if you want to eliminate your retard... open the throttle harder, or get a 1/3rd turn throttle to help this. Also... the TRE mod tricks the bike into thinking it's in 6th gear all the time. I think this is a bit of a bodge-job personally, and I'm sure there are reasons that you don't want to trick the bike in this way, all for the sake of wanting the bike to go faster - in which case, just give it more wrist, if you hear what I'm saying. If you've done the exhaust, the next modification should be setting up yoru suspension correctly. This will probably mean new springs in the forks, if not at least changing the preload and maybe the oil. |
I agree with Billyc with the TRE mod. Knowing the technical side of things from Suzuki it aint worth having. Your far better off getting the bike remapped with a Yoshi box - most FI suzuki's dont need a power commander if your only running a filter and end can. The remapping that needs doing can be acheived through the Yoshi box which remaps the standard ECU.
The next step for you is suspension, forks and shock or maybe a full M4 system with wider bore and a small amount of head work (on the bike not you!!). |
i've removed my TRE and not really missed it one bit. Might stick it back on just for a comparison one day. All I'm after is smoothing out throttle pick-up really - which is presumeably what the TRE advert is getting at.

If your looking at smoothing out throttle response it is always worth looking at things like having the throttle bodies balanced properly, throttle adjustment and a remap, more beneficial to the bike.

isn't the popping something to do with Suzuki's PAIR system?

I wouldnt have thought so. My race bike runs with the pair system in place and a full system and doesnt pop...and believe me the poor thing gets its botty ragged everywhere!!.
Popping can be caused by the bike running too lean or an air leak somewhere...does it leak on the join for the pipe?. |
