Race can on k5 ?

My other half has just ordered her new k5 and we were wondering if when you fit another can (road legal) you HAVE to put a power commander in or is it still rideable?

cheers for your help , not used to all this injection malarky ( curvys still rule)

fitted a carbon can co oval to my k4, the bike's still just as lovely to ride, if not better

Pickin up my K5 on monday and having a remus fitted to it by the dealer as soon as the high level link pipe arrives, dunno what they are gonna do to it tho, if any thing.

I have a K4 with a race can on as well.
The FI bikes all run a little rich as stock and could benefit from a remap anyway.
If you put a can on you'll usually find the torque delivery changes a bit, in some places a little choppier in others smoother, but a remap makes it all nice again and you end up with a straighter torque curver and a bit more top end power (though not much)

The bike will be fine after fitting an end can without any need to adjust fuelling.

I had a full system put on the bike and didn't adjust the fuelling and it still ran fine, I really must get round to getting it done though, not due to poor running or anything, just so as to get the most out of the system.

cheers guys(and gals) nice to know it runs a bit rich as std. anyone recomend a road legal can . i take it the cat is in the can and not in the collector somewhere

Am I right in thinking that if you want to fit an end can on a K4/K5 you need to hacksaw the standard pipe to make it fit? Are there any end cans available that don't require hacksawing?

I don't fancy hacksawing at all, mainly because when I come to sell it I'd want to put the standard can back on.

Is the only alternative a full-system?

If you only want to put an end can on, then a hacksaw is involved at some point or another.
Some people buy precut systems or whatever from breakers and put those on, a K4 system should fit a K5.
You can put the original back on with an adapter supplied with most cans, though obviously this will then show that a slip-on has been fitted at some point.
A full system is nice, but a bit expensive considering the relatively minor benefits.

cheers carsick, I'll have a nosey on ebay and see if there are any Akaprovic systems around, they seem to go in a matter of minutes on here!
