First Day
 

Just had my first day with my new SV650. Very tentative at first but soon notched up my first 100 miles. Kept it below 5k rpm which was frustrating but it wont be long before I pass the 600 mark.

My SV650 is completely naked and I'm wondering what kind of stuff can be added.

I think I would like a small wind shield to help keep me from getting a wind battering. Any tips on which ones are out there and which ones look best? Has anyone else added one after they got there bike?

Also, I would like a Thatchem Catergory 1 approved alarm/immobiliser fitted. Any ideas as to what model I should get and how much I should spend? Again, Has anyone else done this after buying their bike or do people normally just get the dealer to do it?

So far I love my bike and cant wait to ride it again :D

You can get a screen for it, have a look in the bodywork section and see if anybody has got one already.

As for the Alarm, personally I wouldnt bother, mine is and has been a total pain in the ar*e... Best of spending your money on a nice big chain and a ground anchor and the spending the spare money on an Exhaust and rear hugger and a front fenda ( mudguard ) extender and maybe some crash bungs if you are a new rider.

Hope you continue to enjoy it. Would agree on the alarm business in trems of hefty chain and ground anchor but does depend whether and where you're going to leave it away from home and whether you can chain it to something.

On the screen front depends on how fast and far you're going to ride as to whether you need oneand/or whether you think it will disturb the look of the bike but there are quite a few around that will be fine.

Me too! I had my first day out on my new SV today. I found the 5k limit very frustrating too so I kept it to back roads where I had to concentrate more on getting my very rusty riding skills back up to scratch rather than worry about what I was allowed to wring out of the engine - went from Stoke to Ipstones, Leek, Buxton, Congleton, Leek and back home. Rusty, rusty, rusty!! That engine has got some stomp though (cheated a few times :wink: )

crackin bikes ! you'll love it ! I've got everything on mine ! lower fairing, rear hugger, double bubble screen can't remember the tech terms for all :oops: :oops: but its coverd in blue everywhere and looks mighty fine !!!! lol

loud cans are nice too, got a carbon can sitting here waiting for me !

Can't help on the alarm front (I have no intention of adding one) although I know they can lower insurance prems a bit.

I added a Skidmarx bug screen on my naked curvey and it is quite effective at shifting the wind blast. I had to find some longer bolts to secure it though as the Suzuki ones only JUST hold the headlight on. Oh, and keep the screen almost upright as tilting it back to look racy just angles the wind straight into your face!!!

I just collected my used 2002 SV naked on Friday with 20k on it.

It's got a decent screen on it, marked as follows: -

It's about 250mm deep, and is remarkably effective, making 90mph reasonably comforable for short bursts. When I collected it, the screen was tilted back hard against the rev counter clock, and the protection was not very good, but a few seconds with a spanner to set it 'upright' as mentioned elsewhere here made a huge difference.

I used to have a big National Cycle F15 touring screen (from M&P) on my CB500, because I thought the bigger the screen, the better the protection, but my wife has a very effective SPITFIRE screen on it (also M &P) , which is much smaller than the CB one, but provides all the protection you'll ever need, so I might upgrade to that for long fast runs and additional rain protection.

HMMM....I had a look at those Fabri screens and they did not look very cool although they may be affective. It is difficult to tell whether a screen looks good when the screen is not on the Bike.

Has anyone got any pics of different screens actually on a Blue K4 SV650?

Neil, the Fabbri screens look pretty fantastic on the pointy S. Not sure of any blue pics, but see if you can some pics of MitchC's silver K3, that has a fabbri screen on it.
