Throttle Cable
 

Help. I havent looked anywhere else yet as this only happened last night and this is usually a top place for advice. On a rideout last night and the throttle cable stuck on. Wasnt too bad except I was doing 70 approaching a bend on some country road! :shock: Managed to shut off the throttle in time and just about got round, but a bit of a brown trouser moment anyway.

Any ideas what would cause this? I checked lock to lock when I got home and that seems OK, but like I said, I havent looked at anything else yet and Im a mechanical numpty so have no idea!

Dry cable?
I'd lube the cable for a start. check it's not broken. If a single strand has splkit that can jam a throttle.
Check and lube throttle linkage.

I had that after I changed my grips. It turned out that the screws holding the housing for the throttle cable had to be adjusted a bit. I had to loosen one and tighten the other. I also loobed the cable and the part of the grip inside the cable housing thoroughly. No problems since.

I don't know if this helps but it may give a couple of pointers :wink: .

As Im a mechanical novice, how easy are these jobs to carry out? Any special tools needed? Thanks

well ur be looking at least seat tank and airbox mate, but they very straight forward. my cbr cable split and caused a wheelyand a very scuffted boot! i just replaced both cables, probaly best to they arnt very expensive (but they are a bitch to change)

I'm more or less a mechanical novice too.

The cable housing is very easy to adjust. Just use a screwdriver (or allen key, can't remember wich) and a bit of time.

On my push bike I found that the parts of the cables that gets dry fastest are the parts that are exposed. If you take a bit of grease and put it on the cable while moving the cable back and forth the exposed part of the cable and the part just inside the outer cable will be loobed.
To loob the entire cable I think you will have to use a cable loobing tool, I'm not sure how they work though.

Changing the grips is quite easy all though it can be a bit difficult to get the old ones off as they are glued on.

If you choose to do something on your bike be sure to have enough time to do a good job and try to be as methodical as possible.
